This one-day course is aimed at users who generate and manipulate long reports, templates and online forms that may need to be edited by multiple users. Participants will learn how to produce high quality reports, templates and forms incorporating more advanced Word features such as bookmarks, fields and macros. The course will cover the following:
- Introduction and Review: Document manipulation, editing, formatting, task panes, smart tags
- Customising the environment: Default settings; file locations; autoformat as you type
- Saving options: creating backups; file passwords; saving versions
- Advanced editing features: Autocorrect and autotext; hyphenation; find and replace with formatting and with special characters; translation
- Advanced formatting: Font and paragraph; tabs; bullets and numbering; change case; drop cap; autosummarise
- Drawing Review: Insert pictures and objects; text wrapping and locking; compressing
- Tables: Review of tables; tabs in tables; numbering within tables; using formulae in tables
- Tracking changes to documents: Reviewing improvements and tracking changes; IRM and protecting the document; highlighting changes; accepting or rejecting changes; comments with tracking; comparing documents; merging documents
- Working with long documents: Review of styles; review of sections; inserting comments
- Referencing long documents: Table of contents; inserting indexes; footnotes and endnotes; cross references; captions; bookmarks
- Master documents
- Mail merge: Principles of a merge; types of data files; main documents (letter, envelope, lagel, e-mail, list); running the merge; personalised e-mails from Word via Outlook
- Templates: Changing existing templates; altering the normal template; creating new templates
- File types: File formats; saving files as PDF's
- OLE (Object Linking and Embedding): Linking information between applications

Upon completion of this one-day course, you may decide to undertake the Microsoft Office Specialist examination in this subject area. Some additional individual preparation for this examination may be required. Please speak to your tutor if you are interested in pursuing this accreditation. Neither the additional preparation nor the examination itself are included in the fee for this course (arrangements to be made directly with training provider/assessment centre, and fee(s) to be paid directly to training provider/assessment centre).
