Are you interested in finding out how you can use some of the common (and sometimes free!) online tools in the design, delivery, evaluation and promotion of your training courses?
Research commissioned by the IITD and published in 2009 indicated that the use of Web 2.0 technology among trainers for training purposes is still relatively limited. Many use technology such as e-mail and mobile phones for communication or information transfer purposes but the research highlights that many trainers are not sufficiently proficient or confident in the use of some of the newer technologies (e.g. Virtual Learning Environments, Webinars, Wikis, Blogs, Podcasts, Discussion Boards etc) to be able to integrate e-learning into their daily training delivery structures. The report comments that "providing trainers with sustained support both in terms of information and access to professional development in the design, delivery and facilitation of blended learning will address the most significant barriers currently impeding e-learning adoption". The Trainers' Learning Skillnet has committed to providing this training in 2010 (please see dates and locations opposite).
This course has been specifically developed and tailored to the needs of those involved in the design, delivery, evaluation and promotion of training courses/materials/content. It will be a very hands-on, practical course where participants will work on their own content as part of the course, thereby enabling them to immediately commence work on converting part of their course material to the online environment during the course time.
The course will be delivered as a 4 day course (one day per week), covering the following:
Module 1 - An overview of Pedagogical Approaches and E-learning Perspectives
Module 2 - Web 2.0 features of the Moodle VLE platform
Module 3 - Authoring Tools
Module 4 - Adapting existing content to Web 2.0
Module 5 - Facilitating communication and e-assessment
Module 6 - Using Social Media Tools for Promotion.
In order to gain the maximum benefit from your participation on this training course, participants should, at a minimum:
- Wish to become more familiar with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and content delivery in an online fashion
- Have an interest in becoming more familiar with new technologies available online
- Be familiar with using a PC/Laptop, webcam, speakers and peripheral devices
- Be familiar with MS Office Application
- Have a knowledge of the web and browsing resources
- Be comfortable installing and configuring applications
- Be familiar with the plug-ins required for viewing content online (flash player, Java)
LAPTOP REQUIRED: As this course is very practical in nature, all course participants will require the use of a laptop for all 3 course days. The technical specifications for your laptop will be sent to you upon confirmation of your booking (or on request in advance). This will include links to the various software tools, to be downloaded to your laptop in advance of the course.
Should you be unable to provide/use your own laptop, we can provide one for you for use on each day of the course only. This will incur an additional cost of EUR150 (covers all three course days). This must be booked with us in advance (min 3 working days notice required) by e-mailing
